Volume booster app for iPhone
Volume Booster is an iOS app that plays your music louder than the phone's normal maximum, with a bass booster, a 6-band equalizer, and playback speed control. It amplifies the audio it plays rather than raising the system volume, and it works with your own music library and audio files.
Get it on the App StoreThe part every other listing leaves out
Search the App Store for "volume booster" and you will find apps promising to make your iPhone 200%, 500% or 1000% louder. None of them can do what that implies, and the reviews on those listings say so at length.
iOS isolates every app's audio. An app can process the sound it produces itself and nothing else. There is no permission that unlocks another app's output, no premium tier, no trick. So on iPhone, a volume booster is necessarily a player — it plays your files and amplifies them on the way out.
That is a real and useful thing. It is just not the thing those listings imply, and we would rather you knew before installing than after.
Where it genuinely helps
- Quietly recorded material. Podcasts, lectures, voice memos and older home video are often mastered far below commercial music. Your phone is at maximum and it is still too quiet, because the file is quiet.
- Noisy environments. A bus, a gym, a kitchen fan. The recording is fine; it is losing to the room.
- Whispered dialogue. Films with a huge gap between speech and effects. Lifting the midrange with the equalizer often does more for intelligibility than raw volume.
What it will not fix
- Spotify, YouTube, Apple Music. Architecturally impossible on iOS. Spotify has its own Playback → Volume level setting — set it to Loud.
- Your ringer or alarm. System sounds. See why your alarm is quiet and why you are missing calls.
- A blocked or failing speaker. A cleaning or repair job — iPhone volume low covers it.
- Physics. A phone speaker has a maximum output. Software gets you closer to it, never past it.
What is in the app
- Volume dial past 100%, with a limiter so peaks are controlled rather than clipped
- Bass booster — a low shelf that adds weight where the ear notices it most
- 6-band equalizer at 60 Hz, 150 Hz, 400 Hz, 1 kHz, 2.4 kHz and 15 kHz, with presets — see the equalizer page
- Playback speed without pitch shifting, so voices stay natural
- Apple Watch companion for previewing what you have set up
Before you install anything
If your iPhone got quieter recently, a booster may not be what you need. Two minutes of checking first is worth it: run the sound test to confirm both speakers work, and read how to make your iPhone louder — Late Night EQ and Sound Check between them account for a lot of "my phone is quiet" cases, and both are free.
If the recordings are the problem rather than the phone, that is when this helps.
